Frequently Asked Questions

Any organization that does business with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), including prime contractors and subcontractors, may be required to meet CMMC requirements if they handle Federal Contract Information (FCI) or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

The required CMMC level will be specified in the contract or solicitation, and compliance is mandatory to be eligible for award.

We recommend using our free CMMC Readiness Survey to get started learning more.

The required CMMC level is determined by the type of data you handle and will be clearly stated in each DoD solicitation:

  • Level 1: Organizations handling FCI only
  • Level 2:  Organizations handling CUI (aligned to NIST SP 800‑171)
  • Level 3: Organizations handling high‑value or sensitive CUI (government‑led assessment)

If you are unsure which data types your systems touch, our CMMC readiness assessment can help determine your level and scope.

There is no one‑size‑fits‑all timeline. Readiness depends on your:

  • Current cybersecurity posture
  • Systems and tools in scope
  • Complexity of your environment

CMMC requirements are already appearing in new DoD solicitations, and organizations must meet the required level before contract award. Starting early helps reduce cost, risk, and disruption.

HighPoint supports organizations across the entire CMMC journey, including:

  • Readiness assessments & gap analysis
  • Scope and boundary definition
  • NIST SP 800‑171 alignment
  • Policy, SSP, and evidence support
  • Preparation for self‑assessments or third‑party assessments

As a CMMC Registered Practitioner Organization (RPO) and team members with CCP, CCA and LCCA certifications, we help clients move forward with confidence and clarity.
